Sources & formulas — Genesis v3.0
The engine sizes processors, computes capacity, and runs simulation against the following authorities. Each rule is labeled with the source in the engine code.
IATA ADRM 11th Ed (2022)
Airport Development Reference Manual — Tables A.2.1 to A.2.6 set the LoS density bands per processor band (m²/pax in queue, concourse, holdroom, baggage hall). v0.2 uses these directly.
queue area = peak_pax × pax_in_queue_share × m²/pax (LoS-band)
Horonjeff, McKelvey, Sproule & Young — Planning and Design of Airports, 5th Ed (2010)
Canonical airport-engineering reference. Genesis uses (a) the gate-utilisation formula for stand sizing, (b) the runway capacity envelope C = 3600 / Σ(Pᵢⱼ × tᵢⱼ) for airfield-side framing.
N_stands = ceil(peak_movements × avg_gate_occupancy / utilisation_factor)
C_runway = 3600 / Σ(P_ij × t_ij) [seconds, weighted]
de Neufville & Odoni — Airport Systems: Planning, Design and Management, 2nd Ed (2013)
Provides the empirical terminal scaling law and the strategic-flexibility / real-options framework. Genesis runs a "Neufville sanity check" comparing your GFA against the band 14,000–18,000 × MPPA^0.85 m².
GFA_expected ≈ 16,000 × MPPA^0.85 m² [Neufville–Odoni Eq. 17.3]
ACRP Report 25 (2010) — Airport Passenger Terminal Planning and Design
Empirical service rates per processor by equipment class. Used for check-in (conv 30, SBD 80 pax/hr), security (conv 180, smart-lane 350-400), immigration (manned 25-30, e-gate 120-150).
positions = ceil(peak_pax × use_share / service_rate × redundancy_factor)
ACRP Report 55 (2011) — Passenger LoS & Spatial Planning
The post-2010 LoS standard, ICAO-aligned. v0.2 uses ACRP 55 density bands rather than older ADRM 9 bands.
LoS achieved = pax-density-observed vs band thresholds (sub-opt / opt / over-design)
ACRP Report 79 (2012) — Evaluating Airfield Capacity
The FAA-aligned methodology for runway capacity envelopes. Genesis uses the framework conceptually — explicit runway capacity is in v0.3 scope.
Simulation engine — discrete event simulation
In-browser DES with priority event queue. Pax show-up curve from ACRP 25 / Boeing AAW (5-tier triangular). Service times sampled from log-normal with σ ≈ 0.3 of mean. Walk times from inter-zone distances.
show-up: 5%/10%/25%/30%/25%/5% across [180-150][150-120][120-90][90-60][60-30][30-0] min before STD
